I have finished tim parks’ destiny.the reason i chose this book was another great work of tim parks, europa.it led me to destiny.tim parks chooses a technique something like stream of consciousness though not that scattered.the sentences are long -like a half a page or so sometimes- but you never have difficulty to understand the storyline.basically,in destiny, the story is about chris burton an experienced journalist living in italy, married to an italian who is rejecting of speaking english.the story starts with him receiving a phone call about their son’s misfortunate death in england.chris, in his mind, goes back and forth to his marriage, career and relationships with many interesting connections though these connections with his talented narration never leaves a feeling of scatteredness.there are sudden moves and as i said, very long sentences, but it never makes it complex to grasp.I should also mention the importance of a good translation.most of the times,i try not to read translations, but roza hakmen did a great job in both novels, europa and destiny.i should give her credit for that.reading a good translated book, indeed doubles the pleasure of reading a good novel.
i am now moving on to my next book, the wild things by dave eggers.hooray!!
